Military/Defense Strategist

 

Work Location: Work from home with occasional travel. 

Inspirata Consulting, LLC (Inspirata) is currently seeking a Military/Defense Strategist to join our growing team. This strategist will provide support to the development of concepts for stability operations. The strategist will also: 

  • Work closely with Army/DoD stakeholders operating in peacekeeping, stability operations, and irregular warfare. 

  • Develop an understanding of the needs of the clients and stakeholders and translating those into concepts and frameworks for doctrine and implementation. 

  • Conduct comprehensive academic literature and document review in applicable security force assistance, irregular warfare, stability operations, and peacekeeping concepts, case studies, and history. 

  • Develop concepts and frameworks for the conduct of defense support to stabilization efforts. 

  • Author and review reports on military concepts. 

  • Prepare implementation plans and briefings for senior military and civilian leaders in the Army and DoD. 

  • Facilitate stakeholder design sessions, focus groups, and interviews. 

  • Create and maintain a list of change requests and defects to existing and proposed frameworks and concepts 

  • Attend all project and production support meetings to provide issues resolutions and guidance to the development, quality assurance, and production support teams. 

  • Recommend methods to refine current processes. 

  • Develop reports using MS Word, SharePoint, MS Excel data sets, MS Teams, and Power BI. 

 

Required Skills

  • Master’s degree in security studies or similar discipline (PhD preferred). 

  • 7+ years of stabilization experience to include knowledge of stability operations in joint planning processes (Joint Operational Planning Process, Concept Development, and JCIDS) required as demonstrated by previous successful military experience. A highly qualified candidate would possess a minimum of 10 years of experience, and an exceptional candidate would possess 15 or more years of experience. 

  • 2 years of experience assigned to, or supporting, the Joint Staff or OSD, and experience in joint concept development and in stability design. 

  • 2+ years of experience in planning and execution with interagency partners. 

  • 5+ years of experience providing IT/business analytical support in a federal consulting environment. 

  • Professional Military Education level MEL 4. 

  • Experienced verbal communication skills demonstrated by broad experience in leading facilitated discussions (among stabilization stakeholders regarding operational, strategic, and institutional challenges) and preparing documents/reports for use in joint decision making.  

  • Professional understanding of the Joint Force Development and Design processes and procedures, as outlined in CJCSI 3030.01 dated 3 Dec 2019, and effective staffing. 

  • Experienced written communications skills demonstrated via past performance as the lead author of operational concepts, directives, and/or analytical reports on the same level as the required prospectus. 

  • SECRET security clearance.
